Kids Shape: A Playful, Precise Display Font
Designer Notes You’ll Actually Use
- Always test Kids Shape in black and white first—its charm lives in shape, not color.
- Check small-size readability on real devices: render it at 18px on an iPhone SE screen before finalizing app UI headers.
- Mock it up on physical materials: print a label on actual sticker stock, cut a Cricut sample, hold a packaging prototype in natural light.
- Compare uppercase vs. lowercase usage side-by-side—lowercase often communicates more warmth and approachability for brand marks.
- Review spacing: default tracking is slightly tight for editorial use; loosen by 15–30 units in design software.
- Test font pairing with at least four categories: a classic serif font (e.g., Merriweather), a modern sans serif font (e.g., Inter), a relaxed handwritten font (not script—think chalk-style), and one other display font (to confirm Kids Shape isn’t getting lost in the noise).
- Confirm commercial licensing—especially for digital products, Canva templates, and print-on-demand assets. Not all versions of Kids Shape include extended licenses for resale.
